Old Stuff

(April 23, 2006)

Delphi was (and still is) my favourite programming language/environment when it comes to GUI programming. Over the years, I’ve written quite a bunch of more or less useful applications with it. These aren’t maintained any longer, but I’ll publish them here anyway, just in case someone finds one of them useful.

Please not that almost all of these programs are only available in German. If someone really needs it, I’ll perhaps translate some of these, but I’m not going to translate all the texts in all programs.

Applications

AlGen 2

A little Windows application that converts digital camera images into HTML image galleries. Nothing special, except for the powerful categorization features.

Graph

A simple 2D graphing tool with PostScript output. The package also contains an even simpler isometric 3D graphing tool.

PaperPic III

PaperPics are computer aided hand-drawn images: The computer rasters a picture and prints a template with letters instead of colors. You then paint the image with your pens on graph paper. Almost any photographic content can be painted this way, with almost any fine pens available.

TinyView

A fullscreen JPEG viewer application with basic image management functions and EXIF display.

Multimedia

EZStream

Normally, there’s a lot of work involved to create a HTTP MP3 stream. EZStream makes it a lot easier: It samples the music from the soundcard, converts it into MP3 and contains a streaming HTTP server, all in one single easy-to-use Windows program.

KeyJ’s MP3 Jukebox

A FMOD-based MP3 player that focuses on song ratings. Songs with higher ratings will be played more often than low-rated songs.

LAMEr/389

A drag’n’drop frontend for LAME, offering the most important settings of that great MP3 encoder.

m3u Tools

A tool that performs some common actions on M3U playlist files: remove or add EXTM3U information; rename the files according to their EXTM3U titles; copy or move the files to another directory.

VidGrab

A little application that grabs still images from Video-for-Windows live video sources.

Tools

birthd

A tool that helps remembering birthdays. Comes in two flavors: A platform-independent Python script that simply prints the next pending birthdays and a Win32 program best loaded on system startup that briefly displays the next birthdays.

Downloads:

  • birtd-distrib.zip (200k) – executable programs and well-documented example configuration file
  • wbirthd-src.zip (8k) – Delphi 6 source code for the Windows application

Documentation available in German language only.

CharMap2

A better replacement for Windows’ character map tool. It displays the default character set in any font. An additional font selection dialog is also very helpful if a font is searched for some particular occasion.

ColSel

A simple desktop color mixer tool. Very handy when editing web pages :)

KJCalc

A very useful desktop calculator with standard command-line input, variables, history and even a rudimentary scripting language.

QuikNote

A simple desktop notetaking tool.

Type-O-Meter

A really pointless tool that measures how quickly the user is typing.

WinProps

A tool that allows to modify some parameters (position, size, caption, topmost flag) of other top-level windows. This is very usefull to force another application’s window to stay on top if the desired application doesn’t support this feature itself.

WPchange

Now to something really useful: If you happen to have a huge collection of potential desktop background images, this tool is for you. It automatically changes the wallpaper either at startup or once a day, each time randomly picking an image from any number of directories. Some zoom and aspect ratio options ensure proper display.

Games

CliClone

A simple yet addictive game. The aim is to clear the field completely by clicking on the blocks. Neighboring blocks with the same color vanish simultaneously. There is also some gravity, so intact blocks above removed blocks will fall down, possibly creating new single-color fields.

KI22

A game that is normally played on paper, now available for the computer. The rules are really hard to describe, so I’ll skip this here :) It was a community project for the AI course at university, so the game comes with a beefy AI to play against.

Lava Run

This was originally a mini-game part of LucasArts’ great adventure game »Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis«. I decided to give it a larger field to play at ;)

MJ2000

There’s not much to say about this one – it’s a Win32 version of one of the world’s most famous computer-simulated board games.

N4

An »explosive« game whose aim is to occupy the whole playfield. Can be played in round-based strategic, real-time strategic or hectic action modes. Tends to destroy mouse buttons quickly, so beware.

Downloads:

  • N4.zip (519k) – Windows executable
  • N4-src.zip (229k) – Delphi 6 source code

Shisen-Sho

A close relative to Mahjongg, but even more addictive.
